Election day lunch
Remember, if you don't exercise your right to vote, you don't have a right to bitch about the result.A simple soup and salad today. The soup is homemade pumpkin soup with black bean & salsa bread. The bread was good, the soup, not so much. I've trided several different ways of making fresh pumpkin into soup now, and I've not been impressed. I think I'll stop trying.
Also featured today is my new large-format paperback cover. This is my test version for myself; the actual cover will be one inch wider to accomodate slightly thicker books. Also, as it's doing in this photo, it can hold smaller hardbacks. The fabric is from a thrifted skirt that made my ass look huge. I think this is a perfect end (ha!) for it.

I have seen pics of you and I truly doubt anything could make your ass look huge-but if you say so!
BTW, perfect for trade PB's eh?
Here's mine - there is a pic on flickr
One Butternut Squash
One Pumpkin
Olive Oil
Maple syrup and/or brown sugar
Butter
Vegetable stock (one cardboard container – I like TJ’s roasted veggie stock)
Milk (around a cup)
Whole cloves
Cinnamon
Ground cardamom
Crystallized ginger
Salt & pepper
* Set oven at 450.
* Slice the squash and pumpkin in half, scoop out the guts and place in a roasting pan. Score the flesh of the squash and rub with olive oil. In the bowl of butternut quash and in the pumpkin, toss in some maple syrup/brown sugar, crystallized ginger and butter & stud with 4-5 cloves each. Roast the squash for 45-55 minutes.
* Once squash is very soft, pull from oven, remove cloves and cool. Scoop the meat from the rind and place in a large pot. Add milk, half of the stock, more butter & maple syrup (if you want) & spices. Puree with a stick blender. Add rest of stock as needed to get the consistency you’d like.
* Serve warm with a dollop of yogurt, sour cream or crème fraîche, with a bit of chive and Italian parsley.
YUM
sounds yummy, chelle...
Rock on, Ohio. No shittin' around this time. As annoyed eyes turn toward Virginia for dragging us back into post-election litigation. And aside from approving a ban on same-sex marriages, Wisconsin did pretty well too. Dems for both senate seats, our house rep, and governor. Sweet to be out of Cincinnati around election time (Cincinnati, who re-elected three Reps to the house - assholes).
