Los Angeles Arboretum
The Los
Angeles Arboretum was my choice of a place to visit on my visit
to SoCal. The day G. and I went started out beautiful, but ended
up getting pretty hot. We spent a few good hours there, though.
For a few more photos, check out Little
Fred's page, as well as my flower photos.

There was a lake full of ducks and this bird. At first I thought
it was a kingfisher, but now I'm not sure. I'm not up on my western
birds. But it's huge. Easily had a three-foot wingspan.

A cute little turtle in the lake.

The red at the end of this dark treed tunnel was much more vivid
in person, but I still like the photo.

Agapanthus lily. I've seen them in bulb catalogs before. (Thanks
for the plant I.D., Diva
Kitty's Mom!)

A dragon palm. Pretty cute little puffball of a palm.

Many peacocks and peahens happily screamed about the gardens.

Two pair of mama and baby peacocks. A little hard to see under the
shade of the tree, but very cute, trust me.

This adolescent peacock came to see us, with mama not far behind,
making sure we weren't selling her kid peacock crack.

A Peruvian pepper tree. Looked like it was about to spawn mutant
creatures from those lumpy growth-like bits.

A bamboo trellis I particularly liked. I'd bet the bamboo came from
the growths of it in the arboretum.

A long line of cacti.

The happiest trumpet vine I've ever seen.

I don't know what kind of flower this is. The flowers look like
roses, but the leaves don't. Pretty, though! (According to Diva
Kitty's Mom, these could very possibly be camellias. Thanks!)

A house on the grounds.

You've been warned. But what's with the ellipse?

And a photo for the dogs of a baby squirrel.
