Indy's Special Chill Out Dog Cookies

My dog Indy was raised, until he was two years old, in a laboratory kennel at The Ohio State University, where he was used for medical testing. He has some issues, mostly he's protective, afraid of men, and not real keen on new situations. We're working on that, and he's getting better, but sometimes he has problems relaxing enough to even pay attention to commands. That's where these cookies come in.

They are used very occassionally help take the edge off Indy's concerns and get him to calm down just enough to be willing to look to me for direction. Indy weighs about 60 pounds, and his usual dose is four cookies.

1 cup Arrowhead Mills Multigrain pancake & waffle mix or whole wheat flour
1/2 cup chammomile flowers, crushed
1/4 cup passionflower
1/2 cup nutritional yeast (NOT baking yeast!)
3/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup carob chips (optional)

  1. Mix first four ingredients (plus carob chips, if desired) together well.
  2. Create well in the middle of dry ingredients and add remaining ingredients. Mix well.
  3. Dough will be very sticky - refrigerate for one hour.
  4. Form dough into marble-sized balls, flattening, if desired.
  5. Cook in 350° oven for 8-12 minutes on a greased cookie sheet (or, preferably, on parchment paper). Allow to cool, then freeze to store
